How do I install the Windows 98 drivers that I have downloaded from your Web site?
Answer
We recommend starting by downloading the Elite 1212 Windows software from our site (www.gcctech.com, under Support Central, Software Center, Elite 12ppm section). This should give you a file called e12ppm.exe. Create a new folder on the C: drive called GCC and copy the file into this folder. Then, go to the MS-DOS prompt on the system (usually found under the Programs section of the Start menu). At the prompt, type "cd c:\gcc". Do not type quotes. This will switch you into the GCC directory. Continue by typing the command "e12ppm -d". This will extract the files from our driver archive, keeping the directory structure intact. Once this is done, exit from DOS and go to the Printers window. Click on Add Printer, and follow the steps. When asked if you have a manufacturer's disk, click Have Disk, and type in "C:\GCC" as the location of the files. This should allow the system to find the files correctly and continue. Select the model GCC printer you are using, and click Next. The installer should then continue to a point where it asks for the Windows 98 System CD-ROM. At this point, place the Win98 System CD in the drive and type in "D:\WIN98" as the location of the files. Substitute the correct drive letter for D: as needed. This should allow the installation to complete properly and the icon for the printer will appear in the Printers window.
Please note: This printer can experience communication errors if attached to a parallel port in ECP mode. If problems arise, we recommend changing the parallel port mode to EPP or Standard Parallel through the PC's Setup utility on startup.
